Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Rehman Medical College

After three successful years of operation of the Rehman Medical Institute a groundbreaking ceremony was held on 25th March 2005 to officially start the construction work on the Rehman Medical College.

The Chairman RMI, Prof. Mohammad Rehman speaking on the occasion said; “There is no dearth of medical colleges in the country, but we at Rehman Medical Institute want to make our contribution by aiming to set a standard in medical education that others could strive to match, inshaAllah!” He thanked his teachers, friends, well wishers and staff for their continuous support and contribution. In his message Prof. Rehman appealed; “To the nation in general and to the medical community in particular I would like to say, let us set our priorities right, let us get rid of antagonism and renew our pledge and efforts for the uplift of our people. Let us leave behind something that our children and nation can be proud of. Otherwise, shattered will be our dignity, lost will be our pride and forgotten will be our names in the pages of history.”

The Chief Minister N.W.F.P Mr. Akram Khan Durrani was the Chief Guest on the occasion. After unveiling the plaque on the site of the under-construction Rehman Medical College, he was briefed on the plans of the largest private medical college of the province.

The new project shall include a state of the art medical college, a nursing school, a paramedical training institute and a 120 bed General Hospital offering services at further subsidized rates. It shall also include a new diagnostic Laboratory which shall be the largest private state of the art laboratory in the country. Also a part of the plan is a grand mosque with a capacity to accommodate 700 worshippers at a time and two hostel blocks for male and female students.

The Chief Minister in his speech appreciated the efforts of Prof. M Rehman saying; “the government alone cannot provide all the facilities of life to its masses. Therefore skilled and dedicated people like Dr. Rehman must come forward and contribute in their respective fields.” He also said; “Dr. Rehman proved his devotion with his unprivileged Pakhtun brothers by investing all his assets that he had collected during his entire practical life in Karachi for providing quality health services at their doorsteps.”
