Laparoscopic Procedures in RMI
(14/09/2004)
Mr. Ahmed Bashir, the first patient to undergo Laparoscopic Surgery in RMI, has been actively involved in his business and his routine activities within one week of the procedure.
The procedure of Laparoscopic Surgery involves the insertion of a thin telescope through the abdomen and performing the surgery through this instrument. This technique also often referred to as “Key – hole Surgery” is an alternative to the conventional surgical procedures requiring the opening of the abdomen. The differentiating factors of this procedure are the short hospital stay, minimal pain and incision scar and also early recovery enabling return to work in the shortest possible time. Laparoscopic procedure is used for pelvic surgery; diagnosis as well as therapy.
According to the patient, Mr. Ahmed Bashir hailing from Kabul, Afghanistan, he had jaundice and prolonged pain epigastrium since the last one year. Upon investigation it was revealed that the patient had gall bladder stones. He was admitted in RMI on 11-08-2004 under the consultancy of Dr. Amanullah Khan Babar. He was assessed by Consultant Anaesthetist Prof. Khurshid Alam pre operatively and graded as ASA-1. His Laparoscopic surgery was performed the same day under General Anaesthesia by Dr. Amanullah Babar and completed within 45 minutes. Absorbable sutures had been used for the stitches which needed no removal. The patient was discharged on the very next day in a stable condition and advised post lap follow up.
Upon his follow up visit Mr. Bashir re-iterated the fact that he had been at complete ease through out the post operative stage of recovery. While assuring the doctors of his satisfaction with the health service delivery, he termed it “a miracle that he was relieved of the pain of many months with a procedure of less than an hour”. He was happy to be with his family the very next day.
The staff of RMI wishes Mr. Bashir a healthy life.
