Dr. Col (r) Muhammad Farooq Khattak was born in Karak, NWFP-Pakistan, on 9th February in 1946. He passed his FSc. (pre-medical) from Islamia College, Peshawar University in 1963 followed by his MBBS from Khyber Medical College, Peshawar University in 1968.
Dr. Khattak did his Diploma in Pathology from the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology & Transfusion, Rawalpindi in 1973 followed by ECFMG from USA in 1973 and MCPS (Pathology) from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan in 1974. He also did his MPhil Path (Haematology) from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad in 1987 and Fellowship in Haemato-Pathology from Washington Hospital Center, Washington DC, USA in 1990.
He also has a Diploma in Turkish Language from Peshawar University and a Certificate in Arabic language from the National Institute of Languages, Islamabad.
Prior to joining RMI, Dr. Farooq Khattak worked in Armed Forces Institute of Pathology & Armed Forces Postgraduate Medical Institute, Rawalpindi-Pakistan. He has teaching experience as Asstt Prof of Pathology of more than 14 years and is eligible for the post of Professor in subject of Pathology.
He is a member of the following societies/associations:-
- Life member of Pakistan Association of Pathologists & Member of Executive Council &Immediate-Past Secretary General/Treasurer PAP.
- Life member of Pakistan Society of Haehamtology
He is an Examiner in Pathology & Haematology for different Postgraduate diploma/degree exams of Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad.
He held technical memberships of the following bodies:- Group moderator of Strategic Area VII: Quality Management and Monitoring of the Blood Transfusion Services during National Strategic Planning Workshop for Blood Transfusion Services for preparation of 2nd draft of National Blood Policy for Pakistan being held from Sept 20th 2002 to Sept 23rd 2002 under Ministry of Health, Government of Pakistan.
- Technical member in preparation of national guidelines and standards for Blood Transfusion Services in Pakistan under the National HIV/AIDS Programme.
He has conducted the following courses/seminars:-
Seminar on Blood Transfusion at Armed Forces Institute of Transfusions, Rawalpindi from 31st May to 1st June 1997.
- Seminar on Blood Component Therapy and Workshop on Plasma Pheresis at Armed Forces Institute of Transfusion, Rawalpindi on 20th August 1997.
Dr. Farooq Khattak has a more than 24 research publications to his credit and has attended numerous conferences, seminars and courses. He is also the co-author of the Chapter of Transfusion Medicine in Manual of Laboratory Medicine, a publication of Armed Forces Institute of Pathology Rawalpindi-2003:357-374.
He has considerable teaching and administration experience in both undergraduate and postgraduate institutions which includes serving the Armed Forces Institute of Transfusion (AFIT) for almost 5 years as Administrator in capacity of Commandant (Director) as well as classified Pathologist and Adviser in blood transfusion for Armed forces.
He has also had the honour of having served with two Kings of Saudi Arabia, King Khalid Bin Abdul Aziz (late) and King Fahad Bin Abdul Aziz as Consultant Pathologist.
His special interests include Transfusion Medicine including Blood Component Therapy.
Dr. Khattak?s hobbies include reading, especially about religion.
